A Review for the Epidemiological Study as A Health Monitoring of Potential Risk of Radiation Exposure near the Nuclear Power Plants in Japan
نویسنده
چکیده
An apparent increase of leukemia risk raises occasionally public concern of radiation exposure in the developed countries where nuclear power plants (NPPs) are located although the facilities operate normally. On the contrary a reactor plant accident certainly poses a threat to increase thyroid cancer risk in children by radioiodine uptake mainly resulted from contaminated fresh milk due to the fallout. As the end of 1998, there were 52 NPPs operating in Japan. One of our important issues of radiation epidemiology is how to elucidate scientific, social, and political controversy about the potential public health risk of radiation exposure near NPPs if nuclear energy is necessary in Japanese society from now on. A review was conducted for the epidemiological study as a public health monitoring of potential risk of radiation exposure near the NPPs in Japan with respect to two points; routine releases of radioactive effluents from NPPs and consequence of a NPP accident.

Radon monitoring in gas turbine and thermal power station A comparative study
Background: In this study, measurement of indoor radon and its progeny levels was carried out in Gas Turbine Power Station in Haryana ( India ), where natural gas is used as fuel. For comparison, the results of a study carried out in thermal power plant in Haryana are also presented. Radon being a ubiquitous air pollutant has global impact and its monitoring in the environment at work places is...
متن کاملEnvironmental health risk assessment due to radionuclides and metal(loid)s for Igdir province in Anatolia, near the Metsamor nuclear power plant
Background: There have been growing concerns about environmental pollution and public health issues associated with metal(loid)s and radionuclides. As a baseline for monitorisation, radioactivity and specific metal(loid) levels have been measured to investigate the estimated environmental health risks in Igdir province at the Turkish side of the border, in the vicinity of the Metsamor Nuclear P...
متن کاملNuclear Radiation and Thyroid Cancer; A Systematic Review
Background: The increasing prevalence of thyroid cancer among the survivors of atomic bomb attacks in Japan, nuclear fallout in the Marshall Islands, and Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident indicate a strong relationship between nuclear radiation and the occurrence of thyroid cancer. Materials and Methods: Systematic researches were conducted in the medical database of the American National ...
متن کاملRecent Fukushima nuclear detonation, Chernobyl nuclear fallout, three mile island nuclear accident and atomic bomb explosion – rethinking the effects of nuclear radiations over human health
Background: The earlier Atomic Bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and three worth mentioning nuclear accidents - detonation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Chernobyl nuclear fallout and an accident at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant have made us more worried about the secure exploitation of nuclear energy. The central focus of this paper is to review radiation-mediated health e...
متن کاملEffect of Exposure to Ionizing Radiation on Biomarker of Oxidative Damage of DNA
Introduction: one of the most important complications of exposure to ionizing radiation is emergence of cancer tumors, which happens as a result of oxidative DNA. Therefore, the present study was conducted, aimed to measuring 8-DIHYDROxy- 2’- DEOXYGUANOSINE (8-OHdG) level in radiographers’ urine as oxidative damage biomarker, as well as comparing this biomarker with cumulative effective doses....
